The locale of Beni in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has been a flashpoint for the conflict and instability in the country for almost a decade. The violence and atrocities being waged against innocent civilians and the neglect of the government is emblematic of other areas of instability in the east. Activists and human rights defenders in collaboration with the people of Beni have been indefatigable in the pursuit of peace, stability and justice in Beni and the larger eastern Congo region.

The panelists will provide an update on the latest situation in Beni and eastern Congo. They will also layout key steps that need to be taken by all parties implicated in the violence and instability in order to restore peace, security and stability for the residents of Beni and eastern Congo writ-large.
