Friends of the Congo will host professor Justin Podur for an indepth discussion on Democracy in the Great Lakes region of Africa. Journalist Ann Garrison will have an exchange centered on Professor Podur's recent book America's Wars on Democracy in Rwanda and DR Congo.
Bios:
Justin Podur is the author of America’s Wars on Democracy in Rwanda and the DR Congo (Palgrave Macmillan 2020) and Haiti’s New Dictatorship (Pluto Press 2012). He has contributed chapters to Empire’s Ally: Canada and the War in Afghanistan (University of Toronto Press 2013) and Real Utopia (AK Press 2008). He is an Associate Professor at York University’s Faculty of Environmental Studies.
Ann Garrison is an independent journalist in the San Francisco Bay Area who contributes to the Black Agenda Report, San Francisco Bay View, Counterpunch, Global Research, and Black Star News, and produces radio for Pacifica Radio and Public News Service. In 2014, she was awarded the Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza Democracy and Peace Prize by the Womens' International Network for Democracy and Peace for her reporting on conflict in the African Great Lakes Region.
