Join us for a timely discussion with Congolese human rights defender Anny Modi about women’s experiences and efforts to protect their communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo amidst the deadliest conflict in the world since World War II.
Women have borne the brunt of the war that has taken at least six million lives since 1996. Hundreds of thousands of women have been subjected to systematic sexual violence as a strategy of war. Despite the violence targeted at Congolese women, they stand at the forefront of efforts to protect their fellow women and children who have suffered tremendously over the past three decades of conflict.
The October 21st forum — Legal Empowerment in Conflict: Insights from Congolese Activist Anny Modi — will highlight the courageous role that she and other key women leaders have played in providing relief and defending the rights of women and local communities at the epicenter of the conflict in the east of the DR Congo.
The forum is a part of the global Congo Week awareness campaign spearheaded by Friends of the Congo. This event is hosted in partnership with NYU Law's African Law Association, Law Students for Human Rights, and Black Law Students Association. Learn more about Congo Week at
