What is the connection between Congo and the Rio Grande Valley?
Though the 8,000 miles across the Atlantic ocean may place a barrier, the residents of both the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Texas face a common threat: exploitation of our people and environment.
From Congo, precious minerals, such as cobalt, are mined unethically due to a high global demand in modern technology. These minerals are pillaged by Rwandan militants, refined in China, then shipped off to companies in the US, UK, and Australia like Apple, Samsung, Tesla, and many more.
With the development of SpaceX in the RGV, blood minerals stolen from Congo are being used to manufacture the pollution in Texas. Clean water, breathable air, and affordable utilities are all in jeopardy here in Edinburg. Join us for CongoWeek on October 24th to learn how solidarity with our brothers & sisters in the Congo can lead to economic opportunity and environmental repair in South Texas.
