Film Synopsis
In Kolwezi, the city slowly retreats. Concessions expand. Roads bend. Homes pause at the edge of the pit. Kasoro — Congo Glitch moves through mining landscapes where land is first turned into data before it is turned into dust. Colonial maps bleed into satellite imagery. Coordinates decide who belongs and who vanishes. Filmed from above, underground, and alongside, the camera embodies rather than captures. It traces the quiet violence of measurement—the moment territory becomes a dataset, and people and bio-life become invisible. Yet life continues beyond the map: footpaths, memories, plants, breath. The film lingers on what does not register—the uncounted, the unmodeled, the more-than-human. In these spaces, the system glitches. Lines falter. Another knowledge surfaces.
Solidarity Tour
This screening is part of a solidarity tour connecting the DRC to Taiwan, Malaysia, South Korea, and Japan.
This solidarity tour recognises the DRC as central to AI and energy transition industries, yet remains largely invisible within global supply chain discourse. This work makes visible the costs and alternatives held by local communities — recognizing miners, land defenders, and displaced communities as knowledge holders essential to shaping just technological futures. Through film, story telling, dialogue and community coalitions – the Basandja Coalition connects global mineral supply chains and technological economies between the DRC and Asia.
Through his films, Petna Ndaliko Katondolo brings to the rest of the world the experiences and voices of those at the bottom of the AI supply chain. By centering the lived experience from the bottom of the supply chain, the Basandja Coalition bridges local knowledge and global dialogue, with a body of work that exemplifies alternatives to systems of extractivism.
